Title: Communications/External Relations Coordinator
Location: St. Boniface Hospital, Fond des Blancs, Haiti
Reports to: Director of Communications
Job Summary and Responsibilities:
The Communications coordinator is an integral member of the communications team, providing written and visual content to Haiti and Newton-based staff. The coordinator will help identify and gather information for hospital stories (patient, staff, infrastructure, community etc) for digital and print collateral. The coordinator will also have external relations duties as the primary point of contact to coordinate groups and individuals visiting St. Boniface Hospital. Communications
- Meet regularly with Boston staff by phone to discuss communications priorities and review needs for upcoming collateral (print and digital) such as appeal letters, annual reports, blog posts, social media posts etc.
- Partner with hospital staff to gather information and encourage patients to share their stories.
- Proactively interview or assist with interviews with patients and staff, ensuring that consent is given; relay the information to Boston staff in a timely and accurate manner
- Photograph patients who give consent
- Follow up with subjects and their families in order to share their recovery post-hospitalization. (This will require traveling to patient homes and/or schools
- Participate in hosting visiting communications professionals, including photographers, videographers, and journalists
- Other communications tasks as needed
External Relations Coordination
- With guidance from Boston staff, coordinate logistics for hospital visitors in Haiti including programmatic, funding, or clinical partners. This includes subscriptions for evacuation insurance and billing, when appropriate
- Develop trip itineraries aligned with interests and goals of both visitors and hospital
- Work closely with staff of hospital residence in order to organize visitors’ housing and food
- Work closely with transport team to organize transportation for both external visitors and visiting staff (airport/field visits etc.)
- Work with Newton-based team to organize logistics for all visitors Support Program Managers, clinicians and development staff to ensure trip objectives are met (scheduling meetings and setting up working sessions, etc.)
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of communications experience
- Proficiency in French/Haitian Creole required, familiarity with living in a low resource setting preferred
- Ability to proactively seek compelling stories; creative self-starter eager to share the work of SBHF
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to approach people and put them at ease in order to interview them for stories
- Excellent written/oral skills
- Experience with all channels of social media; understanding of strategic postings
- Photography experience a must, video a plus
- Willingness to live in Fond des Blancs, Haiti for at least one year

Please note:This is a volunteer position. SBHF provides room, board, insurance, and a stipend to the coordinator
