Haiti: Disaster recovery specialist

Chemonics seeks a disaster recovery specialist to support our West Africa and Haiti regional business unit. During this short-term technical assistance assignment, the specialist will assess conditions and recommend the best option for setting up a disaster recovery location in Haiti. A key activity in the IFMS Project is the establishment of a backup center for the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF). The MEF currently has a data center housing several key database systems used by the GOH to manage the finances of the government. It is important that if another disaster occurs, the MEF would restore access to the database systems in a short period of time. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. ​

Responsibilities:

  • Determine the best location for setting up a live backup center in Haiti, taking into account the two major fault lines
  • Prepare a budget for constructing and equipping the backup center
  • Determine alternative cloud solution to the physical backup center and an associated cost
  • Prepare report on the physical backup center and alternative cloud solution options, detailing advantages and challenges associated with each option
  • Prepare and submit a trip report

Qualifications:

  • Degree in computer science, business, or economics
  • At least 5 years of experience in data center operations
  • Experience in disaster recovery planning
  • Excellent English language skills required
  • Working knowledge of French language preferred
